  • Workshop on creating synergies and partnerships for skilling up the skill development programmes


    EventModelama is the Lead implementation agency for skilling programmes for various Central govt schemes and is also working with state governments of North East, J&K, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and NCR. Their skilling team is being brought under an independent vertical, Modelama Skills Pvt Ltd. Besides continuing to implement the skill development projects in the apparel sector under ISDS schemes, Modelama Skills Pvt Ltd also plans to foray into skill development in the Textiles, made ups and Technical Textiles segments. Through its partnerships with various international development sector organisations, Modelama Skills will be working with communities at the grass root level, for maximum outreach. To highlight the need for creating synergies and partnerships for scaling up the skill development programmes, Modelama Skills, in association with World Vision ,an international NGO working with communities on development sector projects, organised a workshop, “Scaling up Skilling” on 18th Dec 2014 at Basai, Gurgaon. The workshop was organised in Basai community area and attended by over 500 girls and boys from the locality.

    EventSpeaking on the occasion, Mr Vineet Lall, Director, Modelama Exports and Modelama Skills Pvt Ltd said, “To share our success stories with such partnerships as also to explore potential for more partnerships and industry linkages in skill development programmes, we have organised this workshop. Our partnership with World Vision India for mobilising and training women in the NCR region in sewing machine operator and embroidery courses is an example of the synergies that exist among the various development sector organisations today, which needs to be leveraged to scale up the skill programmes. " In Basai, Modelama has already trained and placed over 250 students and aim to expand its activities. "The world vision has been our partners for skill development, not only in NCR, but in the North East also”, he added. Modelama has significant presence in the North East, where it is encouraging sustainable employment models by enabling market linkages. Mr. Babu Selvam, Manager, World Vision Gurgaon spoke on Empowerment through Skilling.

    “We want to motivate more and more youth in the community to avail of the govt. schemes like Ministry of Textile’s Skill Development programme under ISDS.” Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parminder Katariya Dy Mayor, MCG Gurgaon, discussed the potential for skill development in the region and the support that government can give for expanding such projects.

    Vijay Sharma Manager, Sarva Haryana Gramin Bank emphasized the need for opening of savings account by the self help groups and enhancing the scope for financing of self employment projects, cross lending, etc by the members of the SHGs. On the occasion, 15 students from Modelama’s Basai training center under ISDS scheme were given cheques of Rs 2000/- each as a token of appreciation for taking up training and placement. The event also saw a small skit by the ladies of the SHG, where they showed how the local mobilisers gave them awareness of the skill development opportunities in the region and attracted them to the ISDS scheme. Today they are gainfully employed and advise their community ladies to come out and get trained for a better life. More than 500 women, children and SHG workers attended the meeting and gained from the discussions.
