  • Buyers & Sellers Meet & Thematic Exhibition of Handicrafts &Handlooms of North East


    The Chief Guest of the Meet was Dr.S.K.Panda, Secretary,Ministry of Textiles,Govt. of India. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion were as follows:

    1. Mr.R.K.Srivsstava, Executive Director, NCDPD
    2. Mr. S.K.Biswas, Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles
    3. Mr. Nirman Sinha, MD, Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts.
    4. Mr. Rakesh Kumar
    5. Mr. Ravi Kota, Secy,MOT, Govt of Assam

    The programme started with an introduction speech by Mr.S.K.Biswas,Development Commissioner,Handlooms welcoming the dignitaries and the buyers and sellers. This was followed by a brief speech by Mr. S.K.Panda detailing the need of this meet.

    Then the following buyers gave their introduction and their requirement:

    • Mr Rajashekhar from IKEA stated about his company and their requirement. As of now the company is interested to buy good raw materials i.e bamboo for making boards using Blue Board Technology.
    • Mr. O.P.Prahladkar, an exporter from Kolkata stated  that they are looking for tie ups in all the major products for mass production and supply.
    • Ms Jasmine from Nagaland stated that she is looking for partners for handicrafts items.
    • Mr. Bejan Bharucha of Bomabay Store stated that they are looking for handicrafts items for exhibition and selling at their stores.

    The other participants were:

    Shantanu from Karimganj, Anushka from Tripura Bamboo Mission and Niranjan Kalita from Sualkuchi.
    After this session, the exhibition was formally inaugurated by Dr.S.K.Panda by cutting the ribbon.

    Some Moments from the Exhibition


    Dr.S.K.Panda was briefed about the ISDS Programme by Mr. R.K.Srivastava and he said that MEL is conducting the ISDS training in very remote locations of Dhemaji,Pasighat and Udalguri. Then the PM of MEL briefed Dr.S.K.Panda about the 9 training centers operational and showed the training center pictures. Dr. S.K.Panda was then shown the products made by the trainees at the training centers. He was also shown the Water Hyacinth products developed at Bhurbandha center of Morigaon.

    Dr. S.K.Panda was impressed with the training program and then he said that MEL could take up one of the Garment manufacturing Centers to be set up in Pasighat within 2-3 months. He also told that we should initiate talks with the Arunchal Pradesh Govt. regarding the same.
